Problem
A Need for Reliability in the Field
Breedon needed a reliable way to extend IBM Maximo’s work order and inventory capabilities directly to its field technicians. A previous mobile solution had proven unstable when operating offline, forcing the company to revert to manual processes that slowed productivity.
Technicians were using paper-based work orders, which introduced major inefficiencies:
- Field staff had to travel back to the office to enter updates
- Manual entry of notes and parts requests slowed down workflows
- Follow-up work orders had to be created in Maximo Desktop — after the fact
- Real-time visibility into asset conditions and job status was lost
These limitations made it difficult for Breedon to fully leverage its investment in Maximo or to keep pace with operational demands in the field.
Solution
Opqo - Purpose-Built Mobility for Maximo
Breedon adopted Opqo, a purpose-built mobile solution for IBM Maximo.
In less than one month, Breedon moved from initial introduction to running a proof of concept, including IT reviews, testing, and internal approval processes. The speed of deployment demonstrated both the solution’s flexibility and its ease of integration into existing systems.
Key to the success of this rollout was Naviam’s collaboration with Vetasi, their trusted resale and implementation partner. Vetasi facilitated hands-on workshops with Breedon’s technicians, ensuring the system was shaped around real-world usage. Naviam then rapidly incorporated technician feedback into the core Opqo product, helping drive both adoption and long-term change management.
Result
Improvements Across Key Performance Areas
With Opqo in production within just two months, Breedon saw immediate improvements across key areas of performance:
Efficiency and Productivity
- Field teams now access and manage Maximo work orders and inventory directly on-site
- The need to return to the office for updates has been eliminated
- Faster data capture has led to higher quality records and better real-time decisions
System Utilization
- Breedon is now planning and scheduling work more effectively
- The company can respond to asset issues in near real-time
- Teams have identified new opportunities to optimize their Maximo usage across other operations
By closing the loop between field activity and enterprise systems, Opqo has helped Breedon unlock greater value from their asset management strategy.
