Infinis’ Proactive Journey to Predictive Maintenance

About
About Infinis
Infinis is one of the UK’s leading generators of renewable power. Its total installed capacity of 571 MW is generated at 143 sites, including 123 landfill gas plants, 10 onshore wind farms and 10 hydroelectric plants.
Given the distributed and remote nature of its generation portfolio, many Infinis sites run without on-site human supervision. The company relies heavily on sophisticated IT systems to remotely monitor performance, manage assets, and address any operational issues that arise.
Problem
Remote Locations and Unmanned, Automated Sites
The scale and geographic spread of Infinis’ assets presented significant challenges in maintaining operational efficiency and reliability. With so many sites operating autonomously, ensuring timely detection and resolution of asset issues was critical.
Historically, alarms generated by equipment were not fully integrated with maintenance workflows, resulting in delays or incomplete visibility for engineering teams. Often, alarms would be cleared from systems by the time an engineer arrived on-site, making effective root-cause analysis difficult. Infinis needed a way to streamline incident management, bridge data silos, and enable a more predictive approach to asset maintenance.
Solution
Better Information for Faster Fixes
Infinis implemented an integrated Incident Management System (IMS) by connecting its:
- SCADA and BMS alarm systems
- with IBM® Maximo® Asset Management
The integration included:
- Real-time linkage of alarms to specific assets
- Automated creation of work orders
- Assignment of jobs to engineers via Click Maximo Integration Gateway (enabling advanced job scheduling)
- Visibility of current work orders and asset restart authorizations
Result
Faster Incident Response
- Engineers now receive enriched work orders with alarm context, allowing for quicker diagnosis and resolution.
- Historic problems of "cleared alarms" before engineer arrival are eliminated.
Shift Towards Predictive Maintenance
- The IMS provides insights into incident patterns and root causes.
- Improved maintenance planning and asset reliability.
Key Performance Gains
- Mean time between breakdowns has increased
- Mean time to repair has decreased
